Baby Elephants Are Not Unlike Infants as Round-the-Clock Feedings at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Africa Attest!

At Reteti Elephant Sanctuary the lights (solar powered, that is) are always on in the “milk kitchen” where keepers keep hungry orphaned elephants happy day and night with freshly prepared bottles of nourishing goats milk.

Benefiting both the local community that provides the goats milk (the Samburu people (2) ) and the baby elephants that thrive on the formula (approved by veterinarians and KWS (3) ) this is a win win situation for all.

And while they (the Reteti elephant keepers) may not be awakened in the night by crying from their babies the little elephants nevertheless make their hunger known. With nudges and trunks curiously periscoping in the air searching for their bottles it must put a smile on the keepers face to be greeted as such day after day.

It takes a special human to raise an elephant. And we (those who love elephants) are thankful for the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary keepers who attend to the needs of those hungry, and growing, and curious (and sometimes naughty!) little elephants each and every day.
