They say that #SanctuaryHeals and by the snores of these peaceful elephants at slumber one can surely attest to that. Especially coming from former performing (i.e. traumatized) elephants rescued from the streets of India. Now that they are safe and secure in their elephant sanctuary home at Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center, India, these elephants – Phoolkali, Ginger, Mia & Maya, & Emma – are able to relax and sleep through the night, ‘like babies’ as Shivan Rai says…or rather, whispers, so as not to wake them!
Wildlife SOS Education and Conservation Officer, Shivan Rai: (sounds of the elephants Phoolkali, Ginger, Mia & Maya, & Emma snoring, in slumber)
“Hi everyone, I am Shivan Rai, Education and Conservation Officer at Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center. You must be wondering why I am whispering.”
“Because today we are at midnight here at Elephant Conservation and Care Center and for the first time we are going to show you how our elephants sleep. Actually sleeping pattern of our every single elephant is very different.”
“So today you can see behind me there is an elephant. Her name is Mia. We rescued her in 2015 from a circus background. And she is sleeping very confidently. You can hear her snoring as well, very clear and long.” (Mia lying on her side snoring loudly)
“Here at Elephant Conservation and Care Center in the midnight you can see behind me Maya and Phoolkali. They are sleeping. They are very peaceful sleep.”
“Usually most often we get this question – how elephants sleep. So, what we know and what we have observed so far our elephants during the daytime they take nap while they are standing. But in the nighttime they sleep very well.”

“You all know these all elephants are rescued from a very bad past background and they all had a very terrible feet conditions because of walking on the hard tarmac road just to entertain the public and the tourists.”
“But here after the great care by our vets on site they are having a nice good sleep. We do arrange here their gunny sacks and mud pit for them so that they can take a nice well sleep in the night.”
“Here you can see how Maya & Phoolkali they are taking their very fine sleep. It is really amazing to see these elephants sleeping peacefully like babies in the night and we are very thankful to every single supporter of Wildlife SOS for making this possible for these elephants.”
“It is always keep motivating us and we will keep fighting for every single elephants of India. Thank you so much and very good night from our Elephant Conservation and Care Center, Mathura, Wildlife SOS.” (3)
