Pocha and Guillermina Are Now Free & Excited to Be at Their Forever Home at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil
Two female Asian elephants who had endured a life of captivity, the mother, acquired by EcoParque Mendoza (Argentina) in 1968, her daughter, born on those grounds (their elephant exhibit) in what can only be described as a “pit of concrete” (1) are now free from that misery thanks to Global Sanctuary for Elephants/ Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, those who donated (2) to their rescue and officials from Argentina (a conglomerated effort, indeed, as all elephant rescues are).
Pocha, age 55, is the mama elephant. She is easily identifiable by her tail, which has no hair.
Guillermina, age 22, is her curious (young adult in elephant years) child.
They finally arrived at their forever home on Thursday, 12 May 2022, after six days on the road (2092 miles from EcoParque Mendoza in Argentina to Elephant Sanctuary in Brazil. (ESB). (4)
Currently, Pocha and Guillermina are excitedly waiting to meet the ESB herd! (3)
Their elephant story has a happy ending. Thank you, Scott Blais and Team Elephant Sanctuary Brazil!
