The following is the transcribed audio from Carol Burnett’s PETA video “Comedic Icon Carol Burnett Chokes Back Tears Over Nosey the Elephant“:
“Hi this is Carol Burnett for PETA and this is Nosey the elephant. More than 30 years ago Nosey was one of 63 wild baby elephants watched in horror as their families were violently slaughtered. They were shipped to the U.S. and sold to zoos and traveling circuses like the one Nosey’s in right now, just to entertain people.
Nosey hasn’t had the company of another elephant in years. She’s forced to do tricks on command and walk in endless circles with people on her back who together weigh hundreds of pounds. She gets stiff and sore and nobody cares or does anything about it. Sometimes she’s jabbed and threatened with a sharp weapon called a bullhook. When not giving rides she’s shackled or kept in a dark trailer that’s so cramped she can hardly move. To pass the time all she can do is sway and rock back and forth.
If you see an elephant like Nosey giving rides or performing in a fare or festival please call and write the organizers. Lead a protest and let others know about the cruelty involved. This is no life for an elephant or any animal.”
Carol Burnett Sends Letter Commending the Lawrence County Commissioners For Assisting in the Rescue of Nosey the Elephant & Appeals For Nosey to Continue Living Her ‘Happy Life at the Sanctuary’
And as if Carol’s giving of her time for the PETA PSA were not enough she also wrote a letter of thanks in Nosey the elephant’s behalf as well. See full text of Carol Burnett’s letter here
