Elephant Became Orphaned Because of: falling into a well (1)
Situation Surrounding Orphaned Elephant’s Discovery: Loisaba Rangers (3) notified the Kenya Wildlife Service (5) and the Reteti Air Team of “a bleeding, abandoned calf that had fallen into a well in Loisaba Conservancy”. (1)
The worst part was that after hearing ‘cries in the night’ (1) the elephant rescuers discovered that the baby elephant had been attacked by hyenas ‘resulting in the loss of most of his trunk’. (3)

Insights into Orphan’s Elephant Herd: More than likely the baby elephant became separated from his herd when he fell into the well and became trapped.

Upon Arrival at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary: Baby elephant Long’uro’s injuries were unlike any the Reteti Rescue Team had ever witnessed. His chances of recovering from such devastating injuries to his little trunk were unknown at the time of his rescue. (1)
What Makes This Sweet Elephant Unique: Long’uro is quite distinguishable by his ‘short trunk and very fluffy body’. (1) He is a hairy little elephant and too cute!
