Paying their last respects to one of their own, a herd of Indian elephants was captured on video making their way through a forested area and across a road.
As a family, at one point, the elephants all cluster together on the road, giving the mother elephant time to rest as she lays the body of her calf down briefly before again marching on.
And so they all continue their stride. And in their grief, this elephant family, elephant babies and all, follow each other reverently while a crowd of humans watch and wait (outside their vehicles) in awe.
“Indian Foreign Service forest ranger Parveen Kaswan” shared the ‘moving’ video on his Twitter account with the following comments:
” ‘Funeral procession of the weeping elephants carrying dead body of the child elephant.
‘The family just don’t (sic) want to leave the baby behind.’ “
If any mammal is capable of feeling and showing human emotions it is our elephants. But then we have known that all along.
