For six weeks kind humans in the village of Hirnan in Odisha, India tried in vain to treat a mother elephant for injuries ( a broken leg included) apparently associated with a dreadful fall into “a pit”. Left with “wounds on her right leg and forehead” the mama elephant limped her way into the village area (with her baby in tow) from “Khalasuni jungle” which surrounds it.
Sadly, despite nourishment, TLC; and holistic treatments (applying herbal medicine to the wounds) the villagers & veterinarians watched helplessly as the baby elephant’s mama collapsed and died.
“‘Wake up’ Mama”, the little elephant seems to say… as calf is filmed desperately stroking its mother for the final time.

*Notice in the video that the elephant mother blinks her eyes several times & even reacts to her calf (at approx. 1:25) and (at approx.1:38) her baby trumpets loudly in response. Obviously, the video was taken as the mother elephant lay dying.
